U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 1.71%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Beverage, Automobiles & Parts and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.71%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Halma PLC (LON:HLMA), which rose 5.05% or 121.0 points to trade at 2519.0 at the close. Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) added 4.52% or 131.8 points to end at 3045.8 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 4.47% or 20.20 points to 471.60 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY), which lost 4.31% or 1.67 points to trade at 36.94 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 3.16% or 4.88 points to end at 149.72 and NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG) shed 3.11% or 5.25 points to 163.70.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1742 to 607 and 47 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.24% or 4.45 to $1884.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.22% or 0.58 to hit $48.20 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.14% or 0.58 to trade at $51.48 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.3506, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.9072.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 89.907.
