Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.15% By Investing.com

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.15%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ), which rose 6.00% or 1.27 points to trade at 22.45 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 4.13% or 0.33 points to end at 8.32 and AcuityAds Holdings Inc (TSX:AT) was up 4.01% or 0.720 points to 18.660 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS), which lost 7.55% or 1.36 points to trade at 16.65 in late trade. Village Farms International Inc (TSX:VFF) declined 6.29% or 1.16 points to end at 17.28 and Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (TSX:CP) shed 5.01% or 23.77 points to 450.50.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 534 to 515 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.13% or 2.20 to $1739.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $61.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $64.49 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7994, while CAD/EUR fell 0.32% to 0.6697.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 91.767.
